Anxiety

It’s uncomfortable not to know in advance how our lives will go. Yet trying to figure out how things will go often leads to worry and anxiety.

If you struggle with high anxiety and often feel like your mind is an enemy, you’re not alone. Overwhelming anxiety is the most common cause of psychological distress. Some common psychological symptoms include: excessive worry or fear, irritability, difficulty concentrating, and “what iff’ing”, to name a few. Some common physical symptoms include: racing heart, shortness of breath, sweating, and headaches.

During our sessions, we aim to develop coping skills and reduce anxiety by using a Mindfulness-centered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach. We we will practice filling your mind with thoughts that serve you well, while giving yourself permission to let go of unproductive trains of thought.

Combining Mindfulness and CBT

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is a structured approach that merges both modalities. It's especially effective for generalized anxiety, panic, and relapse prevention in depression and anxiety.

Why the combo works:

  • CBT changes how you think.

  • Behavioral techniques for choosing actions that relax the mind and body are developed.

  • Mindfulness changes how you relate to your thoughts and allows you to focus on the present, rather than the past or future.
